What we loved about our home

Being on the top floor we had a beautiful view and excellent light. When you are seven floors above the street, the street noise cannot be heard.  The skylight is one of our favorite features: gives a sense of space, all day natural light, and opens to allow fresh airflow. From the outside, the building is historic and grand. From the inside, it is comfortable and stylish.

If we had to choose one word to describe the neighborhood it would be “convenient”. Everything we wanted and needed was within walking distance: dining & entertainment, retail & grocery, Ferry Building farmers market, Huntington Park.

Our local recommendations include Cafe De La Press across the street for a coffee & pastry or glass of wine. Escape to a tropical island at Pagan Idol in the next block and enjoy a cocktail. Walk down Grant Ave to Yerba Buena Lane and stop in at Ippudo for ramen & sake. Pick up a coffee from Blue Bottle and find a spot to sit in the sun in Union Square for whatever event happens to be on or, worst case, excellent people watching.

It’s a short walk to both Montgomery Station and Powell Station where you can catch Muni Metro or Bart. Lyft and Uber are always only a few minutes away. Embarcadero, Fidi, North Beach, Nob Hill, Chinatown, Downtown, SOMA all within walking distance. Quick access to bike lanes for easy cycling around the city.

The building is home to a few friendly dogs. Our regular dog walking routes included going up to Huntington Park, out to the Embarcadero when we had time for a longer walk, or a short stroll to Union Square.

We are both avid runners and it’s a quick shot down Bush and Market to get to the Embarcadero where you can run uninterrupted along the water and out on the piers.

As a way to enjoy the outdoors safely during the pandemic we took up stand up paddle boarding and discovered there are many places in around a 10min drive to launch and enjoy the water: Aquatic park, Mission Bay creek, Crane Cove Park.

The storage space in the basement can hold a lot of stuff. We used the basement storage for our adventure equipment: skis, suitcases, hiking & camping gear, stand up paddle boards. We parked our car on the street with a “C” parking permit.  We would often park around the corner on Stockton Street. Visitors would park in the Sutter Stockton garage behind our building.
